Getting a Better Trucking Job

With 60,000 spots to fill in the trucking industry, there are a lot of opportunities to be had for new and old drivers alike. Whether you’re just getting started, or you’ve been driving for years, you want the best trucking job available.

better trucking job doesn’t just mean higher pay, but it should come with consistent mileageperformance incentives, quality at-home time, and general respect.

Do these trucking jobs exist? Absolutely. The question is, what can you do to make sure you get one of them.

Compare Different Jobs

As with any job, you don’t necessarily want to hop on the first offer you’re given. It’s best to look at multiple options, comparing what they’re offering. If you know some truck drivers, ask them about their jobs and what they like or don’t like about them.

Getting a good trucking job really starts with developing an understanding of what a good job means to you. Once you know that, you know what to look for.

Stay Safe

Safety is the number one priority for every quality trucking company out there. By keeping your record clear, you can make your options much more promising. Many companies also incentivize safety and performance, allowing you to earn more for being extra careful in your actions.

Get More Endorsements

Every truck driver needs to obtain a CDL. Beyond that, however, there are optional endorsements you can earn that allow you to do more types of trucking jobs. Because of the extra certification required, these typically come with higher pay.

Endorsements include double/triple endorsement, tanker endorsement, hazardous material endorsement, and more.

Experience

Sometimes, getting a better job simply requires patience as you build up experience. In any field, you’re not going to get a top tier job in your first year or two. That doesn’t mean you have to settle for a terrible job during those initial years.

But the longer you work, the more opportunities you’ll have available to you. That includes working here at Woodruff.

If you’re 23 or older, and you have at least two years of Class A CDL experience, you’re officially a candidate for joining our team. At Woodruff, we offer competitive pay, performance incentives, paid time off, no touch freight, consistent mileage, and more.

We consider our drivers to be part of the family, and we place extra emphasis on quality at-home time. We currently have truck driving jobs available in Springfield, Ohio and other select locations. Click here to learn more.
